A Naval Architect’s Outlook For the 2012 & 2013 Boat Show Season

The 2012 Boating Season kicks off soon with the Fort Lauderdale International Boat Show in late October.

And whether you’re in Fort Lauderdale, Miami, Palm Beach or at a boat show abroad, you’re sure to enjoy yourself at these events.

From a naval architect and yacht designer perspective, it’s a great opportunity to see the luxury yachts and larger fishing yachts up close. If we’re fortunate, we might even be able to see parts of the boats that most people don’t get to see – engine rooms, crew quarters, tender garages and more. We might even be fortunate enough to participate in sea trials!

As a designer of production yachts and larger, custom yachts we’ve got personal connections with builders, engineers, designers and brokers. We also know the owners. All of these ‘insiders’ offer great connections and great opportunities for seeing the boat show from the inside….the real details, up close and personal.

We realize how fortunate we are. For most of us, while this represents our career, it also is our passion. The swoop of a bow gets us going. The 200’+ custom designed yachts still excite us. We enjoy ‘talking shop’ and learning about what’s new in the industry from the people ‘who are the industry.’

We look forward to the next few months and the exciting, upcoming boat shows!
